A region was originally inhabited per Wankas. At as much as 500, they were incorporated into a Wari empire. Despite efforts to defend its independence, a Wankas were sooner or later subdued per Inca leader Pachacutec within 1460 and a region was incorporated into the Inca empire. It later became a notability stopping point along the Inca Camino Real.
